Asking it this many times means she's convinced the answer is already no. The whole song becomes less about being remembered and more about retroactively mattering to people who didn't notice her while she was alive. That's the real tragedy she's announcing.
The whole song is written from the other side of being gone, but the real grief is that she thinks people only care now because she's not around to be annoying anymore. The jacket she keeps asking for at two different venues is the only concrete detail that repeats, like losing track of something small is the realest part of falling apart. She wanted to be Brittany Murphy. She ended up being the girl who asked where her jacket was.
