The illumination she's chasing stays out of reach because she's running the same code in a different skin.
It's not hard to be brave / Easier to give too much away
She calls overgiving brave, then immediately contradicts herself by admitting it's the easier choice. Real bravery would be withholding, setting limits. She's confusing self-sacrifice with strength.
All I know is that I paved the way / Underpaid
The past tense is doing work here. She's already done the labor, already given more than she got back. 'Underpaid' turns emotional imbalance into economic language, like she can invoice for the difference later.
We've been here before / What's mine is yours
She admits this is cyclical ('we've been here before') but still hands everything over. The 'we' might be with different people or it might be the same dynamic playing on repeat. Either way, she knows what's coming and does it anyway.
Where, where do I go? / When it's me on my own
The only question in the song, and it's about being alone. All that 'we' and 'yours' evaporates. She doesn't know where to go when there's no one to give herself away to. The avatar might just be her way of not facing that.
Seed to a star / New avatar / Illumination
This sounds like transcendence, but it lands different now. The transformation is real. The pattern underneath it isn't. She's upgrading the interface without changing the operating system.
The illumination she's chasing might not be clarity. It might just be the next person she can dissolve into. The song never says whether she figures that out or just keeps cycling. That might be the most honest thing about it.
