This is a song about someone who knows they're lying while they say it. The narrator frames staying put as authenticity, but the whole thing is a confession that he's been getting away with worse than anyone knows and calling that 'winning' because someone decided to stop keeping score.

The speaker acts like staying is wisdom, but the logic collapses under its own weight. If everyone knows where loneliness lives, then the metaphor stops being about addresses and becomes about how he broadcasts his own stagnation while pretending it's a choice.
If Heaven's really coming back / Hope it has a heart attack / When they see how dangerous / It is for a guy like that
Heaven gets recast as something fragile that can't handle what this guy has done. The specificity of 'a guy like that' suggests someone dangerous not because of what he did, but because of what he keeps doing while pretending he's harmless.
And the night has always known / When it's time to get going / Always almost tells me the secret
Night becomes the one thing that might reveal what the speaker won't say outright. The 'almost' matters. He stays close enough to the truth to feel honest without actually confessing anything specific.
Think he's been letting me win / Thanks for letting me win
Winning gets reframed as pity. The switch to third person here is telling. He describes himself as 'he' while thanking someone (maybe himself, maybe a partner) for rigging the game in his favor, which means he knows the victory is hollow but accepts it anyway.
And everything you hated me for / Honey, there was so much more / I just didn't get busted
This might be the most honest thing Lenderman has written. The crimes aren't past tense. 'Didn't get busted' means the wrongdoing is still there, just unpunished. He's telling someone they don't even know the full scope of what they should hate him for.
The song ends with the speaker begging to be simple again, but simplicity is exactly what he refuses by staying put and rehearsing his crimes. The repetition at the end sounds less like hope and more like someone trying to convince themselves of something they already know is impossible.
